2. Introduction to the Soft Life Concept
Defining the Soft Life:
My definition of a soft life is one where we choose to live with ease, choosing simplicity and prioritising mental and physical well being. This is a challenge to me as an over thinker but I have an overarching goal of attempting to achieve balance in all areas of my life and having a more gentle approach to things.

I have found the Japanese concept of Ikigai a useful tool to aid me in living a soft life. The term is a combination of the Japanese words ‘iki’, which means to live and ‘gai’, which means reason. Together this signifies "a reason to live”.

Benefits of a Soft Life:

The benefits of a soft lifestyle can improve mental and emotional health, reduce stress and enhance overall satifsfaction.

Consider encapsulating a practice of mindfully taking on each task in your day in a more relaxed and gentle way. I have been embracing the attitude of living in the present moment as much as possible and have found that my overall ‘mind noise’ has reduced.

Incorporating the daily creative practice into our lifestyle is beneficial as we are ensuring at least a period of our day that is pressure free and can be approached in a gentle way.

Things to do:

In your newly purchased journal sketch out the Ikigai diagram and make some notes in each category. This is a low pressure work in progress kind of exercise.
